A friend of mine ask if I could helped him with his new gadget. He had a Nokia 6300 with 909 address book and now he would like to have those address book on his Blackberry contact. I promise him that i will help him but since he was busy traveling and i was busy with my exchange 2010 system, i haven’t had a change to help him.

Yesterday I met him and he brought his old and new gadgets with him. If you could do this he said that “kita selesaikan secara adat nantinya” :)

It’s quite simple actually, first you must prepare the hardware part and software part.

  • Hardware part : pc or notebook, usb cable
  • software part : windows operating system (xp/vista/7), Ovi suite from Nokia and Blackberry Desktop manager.

Once you downloaded Ovi suite from Nokia, install on your computer and run the application. Plug in your usb cable into your Nokia 6300 and your computer. Ovi suite will find automatically your mobile phone. After that you must set the Ovi suite to syncronize your address book to Microsoft Outlook. If you already have outlook profile you can move to next step but if you don’t it’s the best time to create one.

To be able your Ovi suite to recognize your outlook profile, exit the program and then start the application again. Syncronize all your address book by pressyng the sync button. We can move to second step.

Download your Blackberry Dekstop Manager and install on your computer.Plugin your usb cable to both end (Blackberry and PC). First it would be batter to backup all your Blackberry setting and application before proceeding to the next step. Once you have backup on your computer, you must set your syncronize option on your BDM to syncronize Microsoft Outlook contact to your Blackberry contact. Once you finished click start syncronize.

Wait for a minute or two, or you can see on your blackberry display the process of copying those contacts.

Done, you have all your contact on both device now, your Nokia and Blackberry.

It’s not so hard as you think i guest  :)

Sometimes we need to move your server from 32 bit operating system to 64 bit, but you have to make sure that your application support 64 bit. I have HR application that connect to our SQL Server 2005, it was running on 32 bit but i had to move it to 64 bit. I set the application and tried to connect to database, it seemed everything went well. But when i try to start the application it said that odbc is not set and bla bla bla…. I check my ODBC setting again, I believed it was there but the question is why?  I asked my uncle abot this and it said that some of visual basic application is rely on 32 bit ODBC. If you’re on 64 bit windows system yu must make sure that you’re setting the right ODBC.

  • The 32-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\SysWoW64 folder.
  • The 64-bit version of the Odbcad32.exe file is located in the %systemdrive%\Windows\System32 folder.

Make sure you load the 32 bit ODBC and set your system DSN there. After setting my ODBC connection, I tried to lunch the application one more time and it works this time :) Thank’s to Allah.

Finally it’s time to move from Novell GroupWise to Ms. Exchange 2010.

It’s been 13 years i’ve been using GroupWise since version 4 to version 7 and now I have to get use to Microsoft Exchange. It’s a big project since we have to move not only mailboxes and contacts but also We’re moving our E-Directory to Active Directory.

I’ve been searching and doing some research on this migration process, our neightbourg in UK were using tools call Quest which cost about USD 30 per mailboxes and also they hired external consultant.

After 2 months doing research and experiment on my personal lab, thank’s to msexchange.org, support.novell.com, microsoft.com and other forums website, I manage to do this migration my self without to spend any money. All you need is read, try and error plus documentation. I am also had created documentation on how this migration process, if you need it please drop a comment here and your email.

Finally i managed to move all the mailboxes, calenders, task and contacts. Another task waiting for me is to install Office communication Server in our office.

Thank’s to Allah swt for everything and also to my family for supporting me and make me believe that i can do this project.

Angel & Demons

Angel and Demons

Just watched this movie with my wife, it was very good, full of actions and intrics. Very recommended to all of you.

If you like history then you will know that the church was not get a long with scientists. For example about earth, the church said that the earth was plain but the scientist said that the earth wasn’t and how the church killed all scientist who was not in line with their thought. At the end the church realized that religion and science must in line with one another but as you know at the end of this movies i really think that the church still have their own agenda.

This is interseting movies to see, so go a head ask your wife, girl friend or boy friend to see it. Enjoy guys.

Edwin

Update : CISSP is still my dream i will get there soon, but mean while I passed my CISM Exam from ISACA and earned my CISM designation on January 2010

For me Vista is sucks, users always complain how slow their computer, network always not connected to the internet and bla bla bla.

So we decided to downgrade to Windows XP and hope dell.com will support us for all the drivers. Before we go on to the next step, just wanna remaind you that Dell has two type of XPX M1330 series, the one with dedicated display card form NVidia and another one with shared graphic card from Intel.  This tutorial is for  Dell XPS M1330 with nvidia chipset inside.

I found great tutorial on the net : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=153941

Its OFFICIAL! Windows XP works on the XPS m1330! GUIDE included!

Most Recent Update: Jan.31, 2008…UPDATED! I have included direct links to all the drivers, including a better order to install them in…For your info, my machine was ordered on July 4 and received Aug 7 in to Montreal, Canada. It has the following specs:

XPS M1330, MATTE BLACK
C2D T7300 (2.0GHZ)
2GB, DDR2, 667 MHZ
LED display with camera
GEFORCE 8400M 128MB
200GB 7200rpm HARD DRIVE
8X DVD+/-RW SLOT DRV
Bluetooth
Dell

1505 Wireless N
(No fingerprint reader)
OK, so now for the Windows XP walkthrough…

Step 1… You need a version of Windows XP SP2 with built-in SATA drivers… I personally used LastXP (feel free to go find this on a torrent site somewhere, you have the option to install one of your own valid XP keys as part of its setup). (The other way is to put SATA drivers on a USB stick and hit F6 during initial Windows setup…). If this all seems like too much work for you, then you can avoid the whole SATA issue by going into your BIOS, and changing the hard drive mode from SATA to IDE mode.

Step 2… Start the computer with the Windows XP disk in the drive, and hit F12 to load the boot menu…. Pick CD/DVD drive…

Step 3… Windows setup will now boot (blue screens, etc). Here you will have the option to format your harddrive…

Dell likes to partition their drive into 4 partitions… 2 of them hidden partitions… (Boot partition, Recovery partition, OS partition, Mediadirect partition) I deleted them all and started from scratch (I burned the recovery partition to a DVD beforehand anyways, just in case). One of the partitions is for MediaDirect, but this is such a useless program, I would much rather have those 4 GB it eats up…

I’d recommend partitioning the harddrive into 2 partitions, one for the OS, and one for everything else… I chose 40 GB for C: and 160 GB for D: (NTFS of course)

Ok, now windows installs…

Step 4… DRIVERS! DRIVERS! DRIVERS!

FIRST, I’d recommend installing the Intel Mobile Chipset drivers from the Dell website:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=205326

SECOND, I’d recommend installing the latest nVidia drivers v169.09 from here:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/…howtopic=16154

Don’t forget to download and copy over the modded file nv4_disp.inf BEFORE running the driver installation!
THIRD, you should go download and install the following from the Dell Support website for the m1330 and Windows XP:

Ricoh Memory Card Drivers:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=188377

Broadcom 59XX 10100 Ethernet Controller Driver:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=207055

Broadcom 59XX 10100 Ethernet Controller Utility:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=201425

Creative Labs Laptop Integrated Webcam: (only if you have it of course)
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=235336

Dell Touchpad – Pointing Stick:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=207655

SIGMATEL STAC 92XX C-Major HD Audio:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=235761

Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=236819

UPEK Fingerprint Reader: (only if you have it of course)
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=209514

FOURTH, it gets a little tricky now, because Dell hasn’t updated their m1330 drivers site very well…
Here are links to working drivers for the following parts:

Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Module (Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR): (only if you have it of course)
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=216131

Dell Quickset Drivers v3.4:
http://support.dell.com/support/down…&fileid=222116

FIFTH, download and install the latest Directx runtimes:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d…displaylang=en

VOILA! That’s it…you now have a perfectly running XPS m1330 in Windows XP! Of course, this is for my configuration. If you have a different wireless card for example, obviously I’d recommend installing the appropriate driver instead…
This machine flies in Windows XP by they way… I will have to start doing some benchmarking, but a quick test of the harddrive shows my burst speed at over 90 MB/s and an average throughput of over 53 MB /sec!

And in case you were wondering, there are no flagged items in Device Manager…

Take care, and enjoy your new FASTER toy

snowbro

For those who have Dell XPS M1330 with shared graphic, dont worry cause Dell dosn’t provide one :)
Just kidding, Dell doesn’t provide you one on the M1330 section but you can use Latitude D630 for this purpose cause they were using the same chipset. And also for modem driver, you wont be able to use vista driver but you can use it from Dell Latitude D430 section.
That’s all, enjoy your Windows XP on Dell XPS M1330, i found it very fast compared with the one with Vista inside.
Cheers,
EdwinHC

Sorry I haven’t updated this link in awhile (almost 6 months now!)… I’ve switched to Vista

(tweaked its actually not bad)…Feel free to look for newer versions of all the software linked to below….

I figured I’d write a little step-by-step on how to get Windows XP

SP2 installed on our new little baby
I have nothing against Vista, and it actually is a pretty nice OS when properly tweaked, however, I still think it’ll be much better once SP-1 is released…

I just got hit by salow.vbs, i knew when i was having problem going to my c drive…tried looking to my msconfig..there she is loading with name abbas.vbs.

You will see that there is autorun.inf on your c drive and iw was set to hidden so you have to set your folder setting to show all files and show extention.

Using windows safe mode or it would be better to use dos prompt to delete the inf file and delete the abbas.vbs. Remove it from your startup. Restarting windows and use your antivirus with up-to-date av signature.

That’s it.

After finished installing one of the computer, suddently the computer shutdown by it self and unable to load windows again. The error said that registry error or corrupted..cannot load hive file.

OMG .. Oh My God…

what’s going on?????????

detail’s coming up

Nowdays, usb flash drive had completed replace floppy drive as media to infect computer. Somany local virus use this media to spread their new trojan or worm. As system administrator we must educate our user that this is not just media to save file or to exchange data but it also contains a program or applicaion that can infect your computer, steal your data, delete your important document and etc.

There are many ways to avoid this :

    1. sysadmin, please disable autorun
      1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
      2. Locate and click the following registry key:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CDRom
      3. To disable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 0 (zero). To enable automatically running CD-ROMs, change the Autorun value to 1.
      4. Restart your compute
    1. Disable autorun form group policy, please see example :
